My 4.5 year old son has dry eczema. He's a very itchy little guy and has many allergies.?

He’s very itchy & he often gets short tempered from it. He’s allergic to dust mites, pollen, mold, rice, corn, soy, & egg. I bought a Hepa filter vacuum, encased his bedding to keep dust mites away, run air purifiers, change the furnace filter frequently, use fragrance free detergents, run clothes through a second rinse cycle, use no dryer sheets, keep baths tepid & brief, lotion with Eucerin immediately afterward, & have him wear only cotton clothes. I can honestly say NONE of this has made a difference. He starts Kindergarten in the Fall & I worry about him. How can he concentrate if he’s itchy? Keeping my child drugged on Benadryl indefinitely isn’t an option to me. I currently started him on probitotics with his allergists approval & give him 2 tsp. ground Flaxseed in his cereal every morning. I’m now trying Emu oil on him. I spend all my free time searching for answers. Has anyone found relief from dry eczema? Perhaps a Homeopathic Dr. is my next step. Thank you in advance for any help!

Should I Get Tested For Allergies?

Hey folks,

I’m 30. I grew up with no allergies. At about 23 I started getting mild allergies during certain seasons. In the last year or so they’ve become much more bothersome.

I take Claritin-D or Sudafed, or Zyrtec nearly daily, and why they do control sneezing, my nose tends to be a little stuffed nearly 24/7. I bought a hepa air purifier, but they persist. Also, I’ve found that at night I sometimes (once a month) all of the sudden get itchy, which can drive me crazy. I switched to an allergy free detergent, but it still happens on occasion.

I do have a cat, so it could be her. I do work on my house, so it could be dust. I’m in Massachusetts and it’s winter right now, so I doubt it’s pollen right now (although I do think I’m allergic to pollen as well).

So, the next steps I was thinking was getting the allergy test, but I’m not sure if there’s any point, which is why I’m here. If I get tested and they confirm it’s dust/pet/pollen, what would they do? The allergies aren’t severe, just annoying. Are there allergy medications specific to the type of allergy that they’d give me? Or is the test just to inform me of what I’m allergic to?

Thanks!

Help. I'm dating a girl with bad asthma and/or allergies to cigarette smoke and I smoke. What do I do?

I’m at wits end here. I’ve been seeing this girl for over a month and I like her a lot. The problem is she’s developed a bad reaction to smoke…to the point where she hurts for the rest of day, like stomach pains hours after an attack.

The big problem is my roommate and I have been smoking inside our apartment for over a year. I leave my windows open 24/7 and we have an ionic air purifier in the living room. The two times she’s stayed over my place, she was fine at first, but hours later, she’ll be in pain.

Her strong reaction to smoke only became apparent to her when after the second time she stayed over. She’s always disliked smoke because it used to just make her cough and/or tickle her throat, but now bad pain? She’s seen a doctor and she now has an inhaler, but is afraid to use it.

So, she’s afraid to come to my place now. I’ve removed all ashtrays from my room and quit smoking inside. Can smoke ‘stain’ a wall where it still triggers an asthma attack even if no one..
…even if no one has smoked inside for over a week and continues to not smoke inside? If that is true, is there a way to clean my apartment walls so it doesn’t trigger an attack, like burning a nice smelling candle or wiping the walls?
Would an air purifier in my room help out? Which air purifiers are good?

To her and my knowledge, nothing else causes these bad reactions (i.e. dust, pollen, pet hair, saw dust, etc.etc.)
And as far as quitting smoking goes, don’t think that hasn’t popped into my head, but for the matter at hand, if I hypothetically quit smoking right this instant, it still doesn’t help the fact that the inside of my apartment has been smoked in and that my roommate smokes inside. I’m going to talk to my roommate about it. Trust me, I know I am going to have to quit to continue seeing this girl.
