suggest some cat breeds please the more breeds the better?
i really want to get a cat but my dad is allergic to them. he said that i could get a cat if i pay for ever thing including the cat and make sure he doesn’t get an allergic reaction. we have a huge room downstairs that’s filled with Windows and fly screens. i want to keep the cat there and the room is big enough for the cat to get lots of exercise. i have 2 dogs so the cat will have to be sociable to dogs or else i wont be able to get a cat. i have a hepa air purifier and vacuum and hypoallergenic cat shampoo. i have even got a specially designed brush that attracts the allergen and picks up hair fibers and dander. if worst comes to worst my dad said he would even get the allergy shots or take medication for it but he would prefer not too. i have heaps of other ideas but my main concern is getting the cat. i don’t want to get a completely hairless cat or a semi hairless cat like the cornish rex or the devon rex because they don’t have very good temperaments and do not get along with dogs. Can you please suggest a good lap cat that is small, has short fur, has a great temperament (loves to be held and patted) gets along with dogs and doesn’t shed much. i know its allot to ask but as many breeds as you can find will be great
also is it true that if you handle a kitten allot when its young it will get used to it? thanks.

my neighbors smoke, but the odor still gets into my home, even when I don't run my a/c heat unit! what can I d?
I have COPD. My neighbors smoke outside, but SOMEHOW the odor gets inside my home!!! IMMEDIATELY, I have a reaction! I use a HEPA air purifier, and even don’t run my a/c or heat unit when they are smoking! My home was only built 6 years ago, and I just bought it in August!!! I’m thinking of moving!!! Is there ANOTHER solution, rather than conitnuously having to medicate??!!!!:)))

Should I Get Tested For Allergies?
Hey folks,
I’m 30. I grew up with no allergies. At about 23 I started getting mild allergies during certain seasons. In the last year or so they’ve become much more bothersome.
I take Claritin-D or Sudafed, or Zyrtec nearly daily, and why they do control sneezing, my nose tends to be a little stuffed nearly 24/7. I bought a hepa air purifier, but they persist. Also, I’ve found that at night I sometimes (once a month) all of the sudden get itchy, which can drive me crazy. I switched to an allergy free detergent, but it still happens on occasion.
I do have a cat, so it could be her. I do work on my house, so it could be dust. I’m in Massachusetts and it’s winter right now, so I doubt it’s pollen right now (although I do think I’m allergic to pollen as well).
So, the next steps I was thinking was getting the allergy test, but I’m not sure if there’s any point, which is why I’m here. If I get tested and they confirm it’s dust/pet/pollen, what would they do? The allergies aren’t severe, just annoying. Are there allergy medications specific to the type of allergy that they’d give me? Or is the test just to inform me of what I’m allergic to?
Thanks!

I found this for information for pregnant women w/allergies.?
(I am having problems with allergies and it’s getting to the point where I’m suffering a bit. I have a HEPA air purifier that helps me to sleep at night a LOT! But during the day I suffer from the itchy watery eyes, sneezing and runny nose. I will still go to my doctor, but I did find this information on a website)
If cold or allergy symptoms interfere with your ability to eat or sleep, your healthcare provider may recommend medication, especially if you’re past the first trimester. Many doctors believe the antihistamine chlorpheniramine (found in Chlor-Trimeton) is the safest option, as it has been used for many years by pregnant women and isn’t known to cause birth defects. Unfortunately, little is known about newer drugs like loratadine (found in Claritin), so it’s wise to avoid them.

Thanks, from what the advice nurse told me at my hospital was to put a cool rag over my eyes because of the itchiness and swelling and don’t put heat, because it can incubate the germs. But to help I sit in my shower and let the steam go into my nose…helps a lot.

Is it wrong to ask my roommate to keep her cat away from me?
my roommate got a cat without asking me. i have a severe cat allergy and allergy-triggered asthma- which the roommate knew about. i’ve gone through 3 inhalers in 2 weeks (had to pay full price for them because insurance wouldn’t cover a refill so soon), i’m coughing constantly, and i take 12 benadryl a day (at least.) my skin is freaking out and i have acne like a 12 year old. i’ve purchased a hepa air purifier and i have to keep it next to me at all times. i can’t sit on the couch because it’s covered in cat hair, and i have to change my clothes several times a day. i can’t touch my face for fear of setting off an itchy attack. i can’t eat at the kitchen table because the cat has made it her bed. oh, and i haven’t worn makeup since i got here because it all gets rubbed off right away anyway. and i HATE being without makeup.
the cat is a "people person" and follows me wherever i go. sweet, yes. helpful, no.
the cat has its own room, where the litter box is, and we have a large finished basement. all i’ve asked is that the cat stay downstairs when i am upstairs, and vice versa, or just stay in one designated area so i can have a "safe zone". but my roommate looked at me like i’m a horrible, evil, animal hater when i asked. the only room the cat hasn’t been in is my bedroom, so i spend a lot of time there, and then i’m accused of being anti-social too. i like cats, but i also like being able to take in oxygen.
moving out is not an option. i have to stick it out for our 12 month lease. am i in the wrong for asking that the cat be kept in a designated area?

what can i do to reduce or completely eliminate my allergies with my future siberian husky?
when i was younger i had a few dogs and i dont recall being allergic to them. but they were mainly poodles. one german sheppard and one alaskan malamute. me and my girlfriend have been wanting a siberian husky for a while now. we fell in love with one at the pet store a few days ago. i put a deposit on him and im scheduled to pick him ho on valentine’s day. but heres the problem. i know im allergic to cats. but i didnt think i would be allergic to a husky. after playing with the pup i noticed my eyes were burning then about 20 minutes later i could not stop sneezing. thats what got me thinking that i might be allergic to him. i went to see him today again and it was the same outcome. i really want to get him really bad. hes gorgeous. and i know they are hard work and im willing to go through with it. i just want to know if anyone has ever had this exerience… and how did you overcome it. i looked at hypoallergenic shampoo that might help the brand is tropiclean hypoallergenic shampoo for puppies. and i also found a product called natures miracle (dander and odor remover) ive read that people have had good luck with this product. i really hope i can find an answer to this before i have to pick him up. i dont know if ill be willing to go through with it if it means risking my health. i also own a dog at the moment a beautiful 3 year old weimaraner and with him i dont have this problem but i do break into hives when i play with him but ive never had the snifflez with him. im thinking of getting those two products and also buying a HEPA air purifier and not allowing the dogs in the bedroom. please if someone has been through this tell me some advice. im going to my vet tomorrow to ask him with i could do in this situation.

Whats better for a very congested nose in the morning?
I want to know if I should buy a humidifier or an hepa air purifier for my stuffy nose? I wake up everyday with a very stuffy congested nose, and that triggers my allergies problems for the whole day. I end up taking prescription strength mucinex just get rid of the stuffiness with claritin and nasal spray. I cant take mucinex every single day. I have narrowed my allergy problems down to the quality of air that is rooting to my severe allergy symptons. What type of device should I be using at night time.

For moms who've had babies in the summer (heat question)?
I am due on August the 12th and I live in LA. It gets REALLY hot around this time of year starting in July and ending maybe in early October. I am concerned because my bedroom and my babies bedroom is upstairs. We have an old house and priced an air condition system but it was just TOO expensive, the way our home is built we would have to have 2 seperate systems and pay double (one upstairs and one downstairs). My question is what other alternatives do I have? Right now, we are looking into getting a window air conditioner for my room (the baby will be in a bassinett) and one for his room as well. I’ve purchases an HEPA air purifier for the baby’s room and my room so far, but what advice can one give me keeping my baby cool at night while he will be sleeping (heat rises in our room). We can open all our windows, etc. But I don’t want my baby to get over heated during these summer months.
