Where is this smoke smell coming from?!?

When I first moved into my apartment I didn’t notice any smells, but after awhile someone told me I smelled like cigarette smoke. I can’t notice it when I stay there as my nose becomes accustomed to it, but if I go away for a weekend and come back I can smell the odor when I first walk in. I can also smell it on the clothes I bring with me when I go away. My room is the only one in the entire 4-bedroom apartment with this smell, and I have no idea where it’s coming from. I had an ozone air purifier and it helped a little but didn’t eliminate the smell, plus it made my room smell like weird ozone. I bought a HEPA air purifier with a carbon pre-filter, but that didn’t get rid of the smell either. I also bought a box of Arm & Hammer Odor Eliminator for carpet and room and let it sit on my carpet for an hour before vacuuming it up. I almost suffocated myself with the overwhelming smell of that, which lasted for a couple days, but after it dissipated my room went back to smelling exactly as it did before. I’ve tried keeping my window and door open, but still my room smells and is the only place that does. Is it possible it’s in the carpet and walls and the apartment somehow managed to mask it for a couple days when I moved in? Or could the smell be in the new furniture I brought with me (i.e. the bedframe, desk, etc)? I loathe the smell of cigarette smoke and I have no idea what could possibly be causing it. How can I get rid of it?!
My neighbors don’t smoke.

Which air purifier should I buy out of these 2?

They’re both around the same price and both seem pretty good to me.

Best Air Ioniser/UV product?

I want an air purifier system for my bedroom, that ionises and has a UV light to kill off germs etc

I can only find these 2 products but dont know which is the best, as 1 has a filter, the other doesnt and uses another system.

What do you think, or can you find a better product please? (no tower/upright units)

Do Air Purifiers Work? Are they a waste of Energy?

I have two nice HEPA air purifiers that were each that i recently got from Sears, I think I can tell the difference, but do you think they are a waste of time and energy? Has anyone actually felt that they work?

Anyone have suggestions on the best air purifier for a smoke filled home?

I’m 28 an have been living in this house for most of my life. I moved out to live with boyfriends and what not, but for the most part have lived here. My uncle (who chain smokes) and my grandfather (who smokes cigars) has lived here the whole time I’ve been here, and before my mom and grandmother passed away they also smoked and lived here. Needless to say I’ve always got my fair share of 2nd hand smoke. I’m starting to get a cough now that I never had before, and I am wondering what is a good air filter for smoke? I have TWO air purifiers in my room that I have to constantly clean, of course one is old and the other is the ionic pro but with the smoke in this house it gets dirty SO fast I have to clean it every week.
I even have a filter type material double layered over my air vent but mostly that just keeps out dust, doesn’t work too well on smoke ;(
Some of you might say "well your 28, just move out" yea I wish I could..but I cant I because I’m taking care of my 81 year old grandfather who has cancer (he says cigars are his only "vice" and let me tell you, he smokes ALL day)
PLEASE I need advice on a good air purifier that’s affordable like 0 or under that is good for smoke & not just dust & allergens..any advice will be appreciated. I’m tired of not being able to breathe ;(

Smell in Newly built house?

We moved into a brand new house 9 mo. ago, with a partially finished basement. The bedroom in the basement has a walk in closet which seems to be where this bad smell is the worst. The closet is unfinished, (concret floor & open ceiling) with all the pipes & stuff showing, not to mention it’s directly underneath the master bath. We run a dehumidifier constantly, an ionic air purifier, and have plug in air fresheners down there. Sometimes the smell is hardly noticeable, but recently its flared up again. I feel bad for my step-daughter who has to sleep in there. Any clues on the problem or what to do?? I also smell it sometimes in master bedroom and located it to be strongest at the wall vent.
Our builder has checked and says traps are working okay.

Window Unit – Air Conditioner Help?

This is the first air conditioner we have put in that sucks in the stench from outside. The neighbors around here burn their recycle, one burns his garbage, another two burn nasty old pallets or left over lumber, and one next to us has 4-6 people that smoke often. They can do what they want to. That is not the problem. Not going to nag them about it.

Is there any temporary fix we can do to help prevent the stinky air from coming in through the a/c at all? This is the first a/c we got that has done this. Has a permanent filter that washes off. But I think that is where the air intake is at. The conditioned air blows out the top vents…..

As soon as we can afford it, and when the a/c go on clearance…..We are going to buy a portable a/c unit and hope that will work better for us. It will be easy to take in/out of the window as needed and that will be a plus.

For now all we can do is hang a slightly damp towel over the a/c vent and spray air freshener or lysol spray & run our hepa air purifier full blast. Ugh. There has to be something better than that.

Air purifier for snake cage?

Okk..My mom says my snake cage smells to much. I change it out about once a week and clean up its leavings when needed. Now I dont know what the smell is. I personally dont smell anything but she says she does. I cant conivnce her otherwise.
