What is a good brand of air purifier?

I’ve had ozone generator air purifiers in the past. I hated them. I do not want an ozone producing air purifier, but more of an air filter. However, filters that have to be replaced are a pain. Does anyone make an air filter with a washable filtration system?

I’m open to suggestions, if you have a brand that you’re happy with, let me know!

Can air purifiers (ionic) make allergies worse?

When I first started getting some allergies (sinus and skin) I bought an air filter with an ionic feature. I proceeded to have super bad allergies for the last 6 months, they just kept getting worse and worse, I stopped using it for over a month while waiting to get a replacement filter (rinsed it under water instead of vacuuming it out, oops) and didn’t get better. Then I found out I had a dust mite allergies and after eradicating my home of dust on a weekly basis felt much better for the last three weeks.
Well my replacement filter came and I started using my air purifier 4 days ago, all of my sinus allergies are back in full force.
Can part of my allergies be from the filter or ionic setting?

Is Apatite a safe material to be used on air purifier filters?

I learned that the Sharp air purifiers’ HEPA filters have an Apatite component to it that apparently provides antibacterial properties to protect the filters from microbial accumulation. Is Apatite a relatively "safe" material to use for an air filter, i.e. is it safe for the resident who is breathing air that comes through the filter? Apatite (a very general term) is usually made up of phosphorus and calcium, but some variants (ie. arsenates like mimemite) may contain arsenic. Could this be a health issue for users? Would the filters use arsenic-based variants in the first place, or are other forms more prevalent and likely to be used in medical/industrial applications?

Are there Air Purifiers with reusable filters?

I have owned the honeywell brand air filter and it was decent at cleaning the dust out of the air. Has anyone used an air purifier with reusable, cleanable/washable filters? If so which one(s)? I am looking for an air purifier that effectively removes/reduces the spring time pollen and dust from the air in my living space.

The only other way I have found is Obsessive Compulsive dusting and vacuum rituals by the hour. My kitty really hates the twice daily vacuum routine.

Can you substitute generic filters for those expensive ones required in Air Purifiers?

My mother-in-law gave me two old air purifiers and is it really hard to find filters for them and they are very, very expensive. Can I use a generic furnace type air filter instead?
