Air Purifiers – Has no Ozone? – Need fixing?

Air Purifiers – Has no Ozone?
Hello
I have 3 Oreck XL Professional Air Purifiers, One by one they all stopped emit Ozone smell
I cleaned the Ozone plates, they still don’t work.
Then I bought 2 Used Alpine air fresheners — Same problem, I cleaned the ozone plates and no success.
Any Idea why?
Thanks
Vince

What do you think of this poem?

This is not very well formulated, but here goes:

Dancing smoke of spark lightning in the globe of a motel

Yellow smoke, bright yellow street lights, low-pressure sodium, the smell of ozone, a white air-bourn substance that dances and streams out of the air-purifier to raw music that only exists in the dissipation of clearing smoke, dark motels, faceless buildings with only one window which flashes and sparks yellow light, lightning on a rainy night with illuminated clouds of deep purple and emerging yellow haze folding and swirling in a white sky of milk and lard, the blinking light in the hazy distance, the white noise in white office buildings, clinics and dirty hospitals, mothballs, robot, generic restaurant in the center of a vast parking lot with yellow lamp-posts and swirling fireflies in yellowish-violet smoke with a smell of ozone and mothballs, with a fat family and a gaunt waitress with a hole in her trancia in the center of her neck which she uses to smoke through; watch as she opens and closes her narrow mouth to get enough air, making it look like she is laughing. Get sick because of the purple and yellow clinical smoke, and vomit in the toilet at the restaurant. Sick because nothing seems real. Cry and in the midst of the crying and vomiting, the toilet, lost in the fog of a dream is as cold as the room that does not know your name. Fade. Fade away. Go into the twilight; into the darkness. The lanterd-light flickers off and on. As the daylight starts to fade into the yellow smoke, I look into the darkness and I can barely see you. Fall into a state of irretrievable loss of consciousness. The fire and wind has been taken from my eyes. My eyes are yellow and dim of haze, but they will turn soft. And it is like, I would be walking and then I would just fall down. Goodbye… help me… help… goodbye

Do you need help with your asthma questions? (Read this)?

I have suffered from asthma since I was 11. I am posting this as a way of helping so many of you who are suffering from asthma on here.

There’s a great book called Reversing Asthma by a doctor who suffers from asthma himself. (name is Richard n Firshein)

Also a great website I’ve bought products from in the past www.allergyasthmatech.com.

I’m not trying to push products by the way. I’ve just found that asthma catalog and the book above very helpful to me personally.

These are things that can help you if you have not tried them already.

-Get rid of mold in your home. Keep damp areas like basements and bathrooms as dry as possible. Get a dehumidifier if needed.
-Get rid of pets if you can, or keep them out of the bedroom.
-Get rid of strong cleaning chemicals (especially bleach) use vinegar instead
-Get rid of mouse, rat, and bug poisons. Use natural bug killers if you can.
-Keep house (naturally) clean to keep roaches away. Their poop triggers attacks.
-Get rid of air deodorizers/air fresheners. They have been proven in scientific studies to trigger asthma and allergy symptoms.
-Wash your sheets and blankets in hot water once a week to kill dust mites which trigger attack
-Cover your pillows and mattresses in dust mite zip covers (you can vinyl ones cheap at Wal-mart)
-Get an air purifier for getting rid of mold and dust. Get one with a good HEPA filter. Do NOT get an ozone machine. Those trigger asthma, not help it. Do NOT get an ionizer type air purifier. Those produce ozone as a by product which can aggravate asthma.
-Get rid of new carpeting and replace with hard wood floors if you can afford it.
-Vacuum once a week and wear a dust mask when you clean or vacuum.
- Get tested for food allergies. Stop eating dairy, nuts (especially peanuts) and processed foods for at least a month to see if you improve. Try to eat organic and more vegetables and fruits. Eat lots of garlic which is a natural anti-inflammatory. (you can get supplements.)
-Check your work environment. Are you being exposed to chemicals or allergens or mold there? Is your job making things worse? If so, it might be time to change jobs or get a doctor’s note for your boss.
- Get a second opinion if you feel your current doc is not helping you.
- Get a neti pot for sinus infections (they have worked wonders for me and you can get one cheap at Wal-greens) You poor salt or saline solution into warm water to irrigate your sinuses.
- Get tested for general allergies and get allergy shots if you can afford them. They can be very helpful for some asthmatics. (they’ve helped me)
- Some folks are sensitive to extremely dry air. If you must get a humidifier, get one that’s easy to clean and replace the filters often since they can grow mold themselves
- Get good high filtration filters like Filtrete for your heating and cooling system in your house. Those alone, can make a difference. Remember to replace them regularly.
- Stop smoking, if you smoke. (I know it’s hard but the reason I have asthma is because I was around my mom’s second hand smoke growing up) Don’t smoke around your kids if you can help it.
- Stop drinking. Alcohol is a nervous system depressant. A beer every once in awhile is probably fine but if you’re a heavy drinker, it could be affecting your lungs.
- Learn breathing exercises. Take yoga classes which are great for asthma. Listen to relaxation tapes when you get home from work.
- Wean yourself off of prednizone if you can little by little and gradually get onto an inhaled steroid instead. They have less side effects and get directly into the lungs better. (I’m personally on Asmanex which is a brand new one) Oral steroids have long term side effects. Get off of them if you can and switch to an inhaled steroid.
- Exercise. I know exercise can irritate asthma for some, but build up slowly. Start with walking. It’s one of the best ways to build up your breathing capacity over time.
- Get tested for acid reflux. Have heartburn, or tightness in your chest after you eat? Chronic acid reflux can result from overuse of oral steroids. They make the esophagus weak, and acid comes up more easily. This can eventually, irritate the lungs. Stay away from spicey foods or high acid foods like tomatoes. If you notice tightness in your chest after eating things like icecream or chocolate, those are acid reflux triggers. Stop certain foods for awhile and see if you improve. Stick to a bland diet for at least a month to see if there’s a difference.
- Use your peak flow meter. If you don’t have one, ask your doc for one. It measures your true breathing capacity if you’re not sure how "tight" you are getting.
- Use a scarf in the winter to keep the air going into your lungs warm and moist. Extreme temperature changes can trigger symptoms.
- Close your car windows and use the air in the summer on especially hot days. Ozone triggers asthma.
- Are you an artist? Is your favorite hobby making you sic

How do I control the dust in an old house?

I have an old house. I know from experience that old houses are just dusty. There is 100 year old hidden dust in every crack and crevice in this house and it does get stirred up!

I don’t have forced air heat, which is a good thing, but I don’t have any carpet at all to catch or collect airborn dust. I have hardwood floors everywhere which makes stirring up the dust very easy.

I dust all the time. I’ve tried ozone generating air purifiers and hated them. I use the vaccume cleaner attachments to suck up dust when I clean.

Any ideas for controlling the dust problem in an old house? Air filters? Hire a live in maid? I’m exhausted, what do I do?

Air Cleaner for a smoker with low budget?

Im looking for an air cleaner/purifier for someone who is a smoker. I found some cheap ones at Wal-Mart for like but I am really worried that those ones generate ozone and not very effective when it comes to eliminating odor.

Im pretty paranoid when it comes to chemicals so I don’t want to have any incenses and candles burned. I just need something that I can trust that it won’t cause more harm.

Yes I know it sucks that my budget is low. But is there anything that can safely eliminate cigarette smoke? Something I can afford? Please tell me the make/model so I can get sth.
Thank you very much!

What mode should I use on my air purifier?

There is an anion mode and an ozone mode.

In easy terms (no scientific nonsense I won’t understand) what is the difference between anion mode and ozone mode? Which one should we be using most often?

What is the best way to prevent kids from possibly bringing home the norwalk (or similar) virus this winter?

The whole family caught it last year. It was miserable. 3 days.. with 8+ hours of nonstop violent vomiting, plus an additional 2 days of diarrhea. Could not even keep a sip of water down. It was hell!
Not sure where it came from, but it was all over town and my oldest daughter had been attending daycare once or twice a week.

So I was wondering, besides cleaning and making sure everyone washes their hands, is there a vaccine, a spray, or medication that can prevent this from going around again in our home? I’m seriously contemplating an air purifier with ozone…!

By the way, this was a nasty virus. Within comming in contact with an infected person, you would contract the virus and begin vomiting within 8 hours or less! (I’m not kidding, it went through the ENTIRE family, including inlaws in a week!)

I’m just paranoid…. I really REALLY don’t want to ever get this again! lol

help! is working on the train messing with my health????

Ever since I started working for amtrak – and I LOVE it… I’ve been concerned about the recirculated air and diesel fumes I’m constantly breathing.

I cough a lot and because we work such long hours, I feel sick a lot.

Question is, do you think its really affecting me? Is it unhealthy!?

Was thinking about purchasing an air purifier (non-ozone) to use in my room on the train so when I go in there at least I have that space to breathe freely in.
Its tough- you can really smell it in the air.

What should I do?(Besides quit!!!)

How do I actively fight ozone issues in my lungs?

It’s summer again, and my chest feels like an elephant is balancing there. Ozone days… I hate them so much. I can’t go outside without being in agony.

I don’t have to hear about ozone warnings, as I know the day before they make any announcements. It always occurs the same way, the same amount of time before orange alerts and such. It’s as predictable as the incoming tide.

I spoke to a doctor about this, but she just discounted tropospheric ozone pollution as a possibility and gave me some pointless medication for indigestion. I’m forced to play doctor on myself (again)… this is ridiculous.

I’m reading this Primatene(R) Mist inhaler which says it destroys ozone in the upper atmosphere. Well what about in my inner atmosphere? My fight seems to be with ozone, right here, right now.

Sure I can get all kinds of air purifiers for my home, but I want to leave the house and I’d like to do so without an oxygen tank!

I’m reading up on the chemistry of it all tonight, as I consider trying the inhaler when I’m really bad off to test it out. I hate taking such measures (any medication of any type), and I’d really like to hear from someone who knows more about this.

Any pulmonary specialists out there have any ideas? How do you get your patients through the summer? You hook them up with an oxygen tank, don’t you? I’m not as bad off as some who need that degree of intervention as far as I know. I’m just stuck inside when it’s hot out.

Also, I’m relatively curious about the substances used in the nicotine atomizers. If I got a nicotine-free version, is there any possibility that it might help this? That would be so much easier.

I am not currently under a doctor’s care, giving the appearance of perfect health whatever test you throw at me, I am a 38yr old average build female constantly fighting Fibromyalgia with supplements and lifestyle changes. I’ve gone from not being able to butter a piece of bread to stocking shelves all night without pain killers!

So now I must learn how to fight the ozone induced agony… help!
