I highly recommend that you do not use any air purifier that produces ozone. Ozone does clean the air but it also is harmful to humans.
The FDA limits the production of ozone in medical devices to .05 ppm )parts per million.) Anything above this amount can irritate your lungs and actually cause more breathing problems.
I don’t know how safe or unsafe it is, however in addition to removing dirt particles from the air, using ionic air purifiers also removes oxygen in your room over time. So use it moderately, not extremely, or in a ventilated area.
Never run an ozone machine as an air purifier. Ozone machines are only meant to be used for short periods of time, not all the time.
First of all, you have to understand how ozone is used to “purify” the air. Ozone is very effective at removing odors by attaching to the odor molecule and oxidizing it. In essence, the odor becomes water vapor and evaporates, thereby neutralizing the odor. This is great for water damage, smoking rooms, bottle returns and such, but the problem with using ozone is it also attacks live tissue, like your lungs. NEVER use ozone in an environment with living creatures.
To answer your question more directly, it is okay to use an ozone air purifier in your computer room, you just have to operate your computer from a different room. To learn more about how air purifiers work go to http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.com/green-air-filters.html This is a good place to learn the basics. I hope this helps.
Ozone is heavier than air and settles to the area above the floor. It also displaces oxygen. I have a commercial ozone machine that we use in cigarette smoke contaminated homes listed for sale. We place a sign on the door saying to stay out. The machine normally runs for 48 hours with fans placed in some of the rooms to circulate the ozone. Your air purifier probably puts out a small amount of ozone that hardly would be noticed. Call the manufacturer of the unit and ask them about your concerns.
