Cost for adding Hepa air purifier system to furnace and is it worth it?
We have a newer model Lennox high efficiency furnace. I don’t think that we need to replace our furnace to add this sytem on to it. How much does it cost and does it really work as well as “they” say it does? Thanks!
we specifically want it for animal dander allergies and heard that Hepa in particular protects against these.

HEPA is not worth it. HEPA has a very specific pore size to filter out particulate. When you use HEPA filters in “unclean” environments such as a vacuum or house-wide air filtration, the filters clog very quickly, loose efficiency, and cost your more to heat and cool your home. Open a window for a couple hours or walk inside wearing your shoes and you just destroyed the marginal gain you would have realized using HEPA.
As an allergy sufferer, I would recommend upgrading your home filtration using the two-step process of allergen filtration and ionization. Allergen filtration uses much larger pores on the filter, so air circulation is maintained for effective heating/cooling. Becuase it doesn’t filter out a 2 micron spec of dust (like HEPA), you save on filter changes too.
The ionization is kind of like a putting an Ionic Breeze on your central air. Household distribution of negative ions will help drop suspended particles from your air, to the floor, where an effective vacuum can address them (again, not HEPA). Ionization also creates small amounts of ozone, which react with organic odors, solvents, etc. to help your home smell better and your air feel “lighter.” You may notice that any “smelly stuff” that you put in wall sockets (or sprays) don’t last as long or seem to work as well. The ozone will react this out of your home too.
You’ll want to have your duct work cleaned thoroughly before installing this system.
I hope this helps. It is a chunk of change up front, but in the end you’ll love it!
