I have an old electronic air cleaner attached to our furnace. How do I know if it works and is safe to use?
The furnace and air cleaner say General Electric. But there is also a piece that says Honeywell? There was a disposable 16×20 filter inside next to the heavy metal filter.

Odds are the power supply is out and it doesn’t work. The older ones generated too much ozone and they have to be updated with a newer power supply. But it can be done.
Sometimes the insulators on the cells go bad or the fins or wires break and they have to be repaired.
It is likely a Honeywell that was the most popular of the electronic air cleaners.
You could turn it on and see if it collects dust.
But I have seen many people didn’t want to pay to fix and just stuck a filter in instead.
They aren’t cheap. Last I checked I think a new was around $650.
