They’re fantastic at emitting O3 or ground level ozone, a toxic substance to humans that causes inflammation of the esophagus, among many other ailments.
Frankly, I can’t believe they haven’t been banned from being made yet. They may kick some dust out of the air, but they cause more damage to your body than benefit. I strongly advice you to stay away from these.
Over priced. I’ve read where some don’t even work. I would never buy one.
I have a Mountain Breeze Unit, and it really does work, you can tell by the amout of dust it throws againse the walls, makes them a bit mucky, as all the dust is forced from the air.
I love mine, really does work, and make the air very fresh for when I am working.
They do work. They’re expensive, but they do work. I have one of the Oreck XL air purifiers, and I’ve had fairly good luck with it. The US Navy uses ionic air purification to remove hydraulic and lubrication oil from the atmospheres of submarines, as well as biological contaminants. Brands don’t really matter a whole lot, but the higher the voltage, the more effective it will be. The trade off for the higher voltage is that you’ll end up cleaning it more often. If an ionic purifier is labeled as "self cleaning" or "never requires cleaning", that will tell you it doesn’t work very well. The whole idea of ionic purifiers is to collect airborne stuff. I swear by forced air, but some people would disagree. Oreck, again, is the brand that I use, and the brand I know the most about, especially since one of their subsidiaries supplies the percipitators (ionic air purifiers) we used on submarines.
