AIR purifiers and pet odors?
What air purifiers have you found to be best in dealing with pet odors in the home? We do not have air conditioning so most of our problem is related to stale air. Any suggestions?
I have horrible allergies and need to keep my windows closed most of the time. Also air fresheners will not help because I am pregnant and can’t stand the smell of them. 
I used them in the past but this is why I am now resorting to buying a high quality air purifier- can’t stand the smell of fresheners and candles.
Pet stains cause pet odors. Urine is about the worst thing that can happen to a carpet. The urine passes through the carpet, into the carpet pad, and finally on to the floor. Bacteria grow in this mess, using the alkaline urine salts as a food source, especially on humid days. Keep your pet off of the carpet, furniture, and bedding, unless it wears underwear. If you have a dog, say a lab, every time it gets up off of the floor, it will shake itself. One million particles of dirt, dust, dander, are released into the air you breathe. This is an unhealthy condition taking place in your home. I would hope there are no children, under six, with developing lungs breathing this foul atmosphere. Always remember that pets are animals, they are not human. Take charge of your home, keep your pets outside.
Do you have windows? Let the natural air filter through and disperse the grossness of the air…
I like to use Air Wick Lavendar ("It’s good to be home!"). For the bathroom. Pet odors can’t be more grotty than the bathroom, ay?
I recently bought a Russell Hobbs air purifier. My sons both have allergies to dust mites, moulds and pollens. Unfortunately if you leave the windows closed all the time you will be over run with dust mites and mold, if you open them you let the pollen in.
I find it’s best to do a bit of both, then use the filter while the windows are open to catch the pollen. Even if you do it one room at a time, with the door closed but the window open.
The air purifier seems to be a good one. It has a large particle filter that can be washed, then a hepa filter for small particles and finally a charcoal filter to help with odors. If you leave it on automatic, it senses smell and particles in the air and increases the fan speed to match. It also shows on a display panel what the purity of the air is.
It also has an ioniser that can be used as wanted, and a set of UV lights to sterilize as well for if there are sick people in the house. I paid $500 for it, and I must say it is very impressive.

Most importantly, when you buy a high quality air purifier, make sure to ask for the independent third party testing to prove that the machine actually does what it says it can do.
