Does the air purifier blow out and take in air on the same side?
I have a Holmes. It’s about three feet tall. On the front I feel air blown out, but at the top of the front, i dont feel any blowing. so does it take in air on the top of the front. or does it take it in on the back of the purifier. On the back I feel some kind of cool air around it, but i don’t know if its sucking in air or doing nothing

I am not familiar with Holmes units. I use the Ion-380, http://www.topbuys.com.au/ionmax-silent-ionic-air-purifier-with-uv-lamp-ion-388.aspx , which sucks the air into the back and sends the pure air out the front of the unit. It works quite gently, but I can definitely feel the effects in the room.
Is your purifier coverage enough for the size of the room? It may not be sufficiently powerful if your room is really large.
If you want to test whether your unit is working properly, move it to a small room and close the door. Leave the unit on for an hour and come back. You should be able to feel a difference in the air quality of the room.
Another possibility is that it may be positioned incorrectly. You should place the purifier in a well ventilated area at least a foot away from any walls or furniture. Avoid having any other appliances, such as a TV, too close as this may cause interference. And make sure curtains and other objects are far enough away to avoid getting trapped in the suction grill.
Your unit may also have stopped working because it needs cleaning, or the filter may need to be replaced.
If you have done all the above, and it still doesn’t work you, may have a faulty unit. I recommend contacting manufacturer for repair or replacement if under warranty.
