I you smoke it is ok to leave them on 24/7. If you dont smoke then turn it off every now and then. Maybe run it for an hour at a time. Leave it off for 2 hours then after that turn it back on for an hour. This way your house or apartment stays fresh smelling and you wont burn out the motor or fan on it as fast.

By all means turn it off when you are going to be away like for a weekend unless you have a pet in the house (babysat for of course!). I had one of those and liked it, but i only used it during my allergy season. Otherwise i used it only once in awhile.

Well, if you smoke, I say 24/7, unless you go on a trip. It should give some tips for this in the instruction booklet. I have never heard of anyone having trouble when they left it on 24/7. Besides, isn't that what they are designed for, full time cleaning the air?
