Can you substitute generic filters for those expensive ones required in Air Purifiers?
My mother-in-law gave me two old air purifiers and is it really hard to find filters for them and they are very, very expensive. Can I use a generic furnace type air filter instead?

Typically, filters in air purifiers are HEPA type filters. That means that they are 99.97% efficient down to 0.3 microns. Your furnace filters (yes, even the Ultra-Allergen) is only 20% efficient at 0.3 microns. You will be better off finding the right filters or replacing the machines with something effective. I hope this helps.
