Why dont polluted cities build giant ionic air purifier to remove the haze you see in every city?
My suggestion to air improvement is to build giant ionic air purifier that resembles a long pole maybe 1000 ft high by 100ft wide. Erect 4 in each corner and 1 in the center of the city and turn in on so it can attract all the carbon particles that hangs above the city. Then we can compact all the particles into a canister, put it on a rocket and send it on a one way trip to the moon or the sun. I figure an ionic air purifier can purify the air in a room, why not apply the same priciples on a larger scale like to clean the city air. Does this make sense to anybody?

Why not solve the problem at the source where it is concentrated? That is what stack scrubbers do. The majority of the smog in cities is due to traffic. Now we just need to come up with a better solution to that problem (portable clean energy).
I don’t know much about that sort of thing, but even if what you’re talking about would work, it would cost a lotttt of money. & the governments of those cities wouldn’t be willing to put up that amount of money unless the federal government forced them or paid for it, which I know THEY don’t wanna do. ;]
i had that same idea, except with sending the worlds trash to space, and my friends got made at me for wanting to pollute the universe lol

Because in order for a Purifier to work you must be able to filter all the air, the problem with doing this in an outside setting is you can’t move enough air, The purifier would simply clean air around itself, while the pollution it self would rise and not make it into the purifier.
To prove this won’t work, just set 5 candles outside in a four corners and center layout like you have suggested, now light them and see how long they stay lit.
The same principle applies to ait purifiers, the air around them needs to be still so that the purifier can move the air.

The power that would be needed to run this purifiers would be enormous. the cities that usually have the smog are often the ones that have black and brown outs all the time. Plus we have to think about environmental impacts. Most ionic air purifiers dont let out pure oxygen. Ozone is produced by many and can be just as bad as carbon dioxide.
Ionic air purifiers create ozone, which is a major component of smog.
It would contribute to the problem – not solve it.
This could be a temporary solution to the problem. It will consume huge amounts of power and a best solution will be to run it on Solar power so that it runs continuosly in sunlight. That way it could be automated too.
But the cost may be too huge and just a pole may not work we may need to build air filters to filter huge volumes of air.
