HEPA air filters are designed to filter very fine particulate matter resulting in allergies, but not volatile organics as in spray paint. A charcoal filter would be better for that.
Respirator cartridges also come in a combination Hepa/organic filter.
Check out MSA Comfo GMA cartridge which has P100 filter and organic vapor filtration. If you have a larger quantity of aresol particulate as wee you can place and additional prefilter over the cartridge to catch the gross sized material and get a little bit longer life from the cartridge as you won’t plug up the p100 filter as fast.
