carpet and dust?
i have bad dust allergy and im allergic to mold im pretty sure its the dust causing my problems though..the carpet in my room has been neglected for years hasnt been vacummed in years untill recently ..no matter how much dusting and vaccuming i do theres dust particles in the air and dust build up on furinture begins almost instantly..i have a humidifier i have an air purifier with hepa filter and nothing seems to helps i feel it on my skin i feel on my hair..and i feel the urge to sneeze but dont since im on so many allergy medications..my question is the odds good that most of this dust coming from my carpet and its just to far gone…if i get rid of the carpet and put down hard floor do you think it would get rid of a good majority of the dust..i know its impossible to get rid of dust completly and carpets are just one of the problems but i can clean all the other stuff the carpet just seems like a lost cause,give me your thoughts
Get it steam cleaned. The moisture in the steam doesn’t let the dust go airborne and it’s sucked up immediately by the steam cleaner. In the future, vacuum regularly. Also, vacuums come with HEPA filters on the air discharge these days. You might have to spend $150+ for a good, new vacuum cleaner. But, it sounds like it would be worth it for you.
Definitely get rid of the carpet!!!!
You need to get the dust out of the carpet.
I had a similar problem in my computer room. Dust everywhere – including inside the computers.
Bought a robot vacuum. This thing has saved my sanity. I let it run twice a week. It goes for about 2 hours and you would not believe the amount of fine-particle dirt and doghair it picks up each time. It can also go places your ordinary vacuum can not reach.
There is a significant improvement – very little dust now on equipment and furniture.
Part of the problem with carpets and dust or other irritants, is that it is basically a giant woven sponge. Having carpet without a vacuum to use on it every couple of days is asking for more trouble than you can imagine. Every bit of grit from soil or dirt that you track onto the carpet acts like a small saw or tooth cutting the fibers and making more dust, not to mention ruining your carpet.
Your Humidifier is likely supplying enough moisture to allow all the things trapped in your carpet to grow, and multiply, like molds, and fungi.
You are probably way past the time that this carpet, if it was as poorly maintained as you imply, gets removed.
Empty the room, remove the carpet, then get a long hose on the vacuum, with the machine OUTSIDE, vacuum the entire room, top to bottom. Then, Wipe down the walls with a damp cloth, rinsing and wringing it often. You may need to look at new paint if the walls are chalky when you wipe them. This will add to the dust issue.
You do not say what the ceiling looks like, but that should be cleaned as well.
To truly fight the dust, you need to minimize the surfaces and holding places in your room.
Closets should have doors or other ways to keep dust out of clothes. Other clothes should be in drawers.Any loose items on the floor, dressers, bed etc. all allow dust and other irritants to get trapped. If you have electronics or a TV, be sure to dust those every day. The static is constant these days with the instant on. Wipe your TV screen with a clean dust cloth and see for yourself!
YOu should also try to eliminate the entry of the dust as well. Things like good screens on windows, still let a lot of dust into a house or room. The fresh air is good for you, but be sure it can move both ways, and carry the dust out again. Curtains should get cleaned regularly. Either make them out of washable material yourself, or be sure the fabric can at least be hung in the shower or tub and gently rinsed down.
remove shoes at the entry to the house or room. The same goes for outerwear, coats, jackets hats. Off at the entry, not tracked through the house.

you may want to pull that rug out and buy a new one and for the walls lts a good idea to wash your walls down
