help! is working on the train messing with my health????
Ever since I started working for amtrak – and I LOVE it… I’ve been concerned about the recirculated air and diesel fumes I’m constantly breathing.
I cough a lot and because we work such long hours, I feel sick a lot.
Question is, do you think its really affecting me? Is it unhealthy!?
Was thinking about purchasing an air purifier (non-ozone) to use in my room on the train so when I go in there at least I have that space to breathe freely in.
Its tough- you can really smell it in the air.
What should I do?(Besides quit!!!)

Take a good multi-vitamin/mineral with anti-oxidants to protect you from the pollution of the diesel fuel. (alpha-lipoic acid; green tea EXTRACT capsules; Grapeseed extract).
I don’t think the recirculated air is that bad because the doors & windows do open (don’t they?) It’s not like an airplane.
Are you used to the movement on the train? Try Dramamine or Bonine a few days & see if it makes a difference.
When I started working in Manhattan I started having sinus headaches & allergies…so pollution affects us, but as I indicated, you can protect yourself.
I think the portable air purifier is a good idea.
Eat healthy & enjoy your job.
An air purifier would probably be a good idea.
If conditions don’t improve see a doctor.. it could be something else.
Good luck
Buy one if you like your job but be sure it is portable if you find out it doesn’t help. I sure hope it helps. Luck
