What is the best air purifier to get? My room is so dusty!?
I’d be will to go 0 as I can see that’s how much an Ionic Breeze costs. I’ll spend good money to get a good product, but I don’t want to get ripped off either.
My room is 13′x11′, so thats roughly 143 sq feet. For some reason, dust just grows in my room–moreso than any other room in the house by at least a factor of 100. And I noticed how quickly my A/C filter gets dusty. What gives?
Anyways, I’d love to hear your own personal experiences dealing with dust, and what you reccomend. I can’t believe I’m breathing all that crap in my lungs.
I have an air purifier and a robot vacuum. If I only had $300 to spend, I would opt for the vacuum over the air purifier since it also vacuums.. but it does pick up a lot of the dust that gets trapped in carpet. If your dusty room is carpeted.. consider getting one and running it every day until the dust dies down.
Anyway, when looking for an air purifier, look for one that pumps the most air through and has washable filters that you can clean and put back. Sharper Image’s Ionic Breeze is actually very good for this.
Here is my "dust control" answer that I posted to a similar question a few weeks ago.
1) Buy one of those stand-alone air filter units and put it in the room living room or the room where you see the most dust. You can buy them in most home improvement stores. Here is the one from Sharper Image: http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/product/sku__SI871GRY . This one has a removable tray so you don’t have to keey buying filters.
2) Get a robot vacuum to keep dust off your floors. Because it’s a robot, you can have it going when you are at work. You will be surprised how much dirt that thing picks up.
3) Use furniture polish for dusting (Pledge) or use a mix of (1:10) water to fabric softener. Fabric softener has charged particles in it that repel other particles (that’s how you get rid of static cling!) or try dusting with a dryer sheet or those disposable cloths they make for dusting – same dust repelling effect.
4) Change the filter on your central air conditioning unit and furnace more often (I change mine monthly).
This will not eliminate dust, but you should see a noticeable difference in how long it takes the dust to come back.
